My Team
At this point I will give a strategy and tips on building your team.
Many people wonder what positions are best to fill, where to spend your time building, so I've come up with some tips to help you build this best team quickly.
Before I get into that, let me quickly explain synergies and team synergies. Base gold cards come with 1 synergy. Higher cards come with 2 or possibly many more as the season goes on. Once you hit the synergy minimun, stats on those players cards will be raised, or if its a team synergy, your entire team (not just the ones with the synergy) will receive the boost. These are very important and how you build your team should center around these at first. By the end of the year, it will be easier to fill your team synergies.
- To begin, we'll start with the least valuable position on the team. In NHL HUT, its commonly agreed that the goalie is not somewhere you want to devote many resources to. Just look at the market to see goalies going cheaper than any other position. Mainly, the difference in the 90 and 99 overall goalies isn't much. Not like a FWD or DEF. Also, when you choose untradable rewards, you will get quite a few goalies over the year that will suffice just fine. I have a collection of 90 plus goalies not being used currently. So don't waste any auctions or collectibles on goalies.
- Forwards are more impactful than defenders. This game is all about scoring. I recommend always building your FWDs faster than your DEF. In fact, you can build 2 top D, and those should hold you up for a long time while you build the rest of the team to catch up. Due to untradable rewards, I've noticed as the season goes on my bench D untradables are a lot better than my fwds. You only need to fill 6 DEF while you need 12 FWDs. So concentrate on FWDs with your coins.
- Your 4th line should be cheap guys you want to fill out your team synergies. Look for cheap event players who have more than 1 synergy, and fill out your 4th line with them. Your 4th line will see so little time on the ice they should do something for your team. Same goes for your 3rd DEF pair, but they do see more time than your 4th line.
- Focus on building your 1st line always. Build the best one possible b/c that will spend a majority of the time on the ice. And once you get a better player, just push them down the lineup so you're always aiming for the best players and filling holes as my arise with cheap solutions.
- Taller players just play better, but always balance your team out with a mix of both size and speed. But have at least 1 DEF on your 1st line that is defensive, he will be going against your opponents best players.
- Finally, and most importantly, this game is for fun. If your favorite player has a card, and you're wondering if you should get it, then get it. Play with the cards you want to enjoy the game. You will want to play more with your favorite player than 99 McDavid and 99 Matthews any day of the week.
